Dog’s Day Rules

The following rules and regulations are designed to ensure a safe and fun environment for your dog, so please read carefully.

Health 

  • Vaccinations (Rabies, Bordatella, Distemper (dhlpp), Influenza) must be up to date as well as flea and tick preventative.  All new clients must complete an application (online), sign waiver/release agreements/ rules documents and have an evaluation/introduction prior to any services.

  • Please alert us to any changes in your dog’s behavior, health or condition.

  • DO NOT send your dog to daycare or boarding if they are coughing/sneezing, have diarrhea, vomiting, fleas or any illness.  Illnesses are extremely contagious in group play with dogs.  They share water and play with their mouths. Please contact us if you have any questions.

  • Unfortunately, the above illnesses can be carried without a dog showing symptoms and some are air born illnesses (just like with humans), so there is no way for us to fully prevent things like this from occurring on occasion.  We clean regularly and constantly refresh/disinfect water bowls throughout the day. You must be willing to accept these risks when sending your dog to any boarding and daycare facility. 

  • **A note about Conjunctivitis and Canine Papillomas: We do not believe these are illnesses that warrant staying out of daycare or boarding unless severe…meaning that if your dog’s eyes are needing to be cleaned frequently (every hour or so) or if your dog has more than one or two warts (papillomas) in his or her mouth, they should stay out of daycare while showing symptoms or have warts present. This may mean staying out of daycare for several weeks until warts fall off.

Behavior/Safety

  • “Rough housing” is what many dogs do; however, we do not allow aggressive behavior. We promote a social atmosphere; therefore we can only allow dogs that are comfortable in a social canine setting.  

  •  Like people, dogs occasionally have bad days too. There are occasions where some in the group may be irritable.  We will then attempt to separate the dogs into smaller groups for short periods of time. If the behavior continues, it is possible your dog will be dismissed from Dog’s Day.

  • We make every effort to ensure the safety of every dog under our care. However, dog daycare/boarding is like a children’s daycare. A child can fall down or catch a cold, encounter a bully, etc. Those are the realities of daycare with children as well as with dogs. The risks with dogs are a bit different- dogs play with paws, nails and teeth, so you may occasionally see a scratch or two as well as bites and other injuries.  In addition, belongings (like harnesses and collars) may be damaged through play.

  • Although, while outdoors, the dogs are in a fence-enclosed yards and we have never lost a dog, we must be realistic and make sure each client understands that there is a risk involved any time a dog is off-leash.

  • We understand that you may want to see your pup off at “camp” and see how he or she does with the other dogs, but during our regular operations, this is very disruptive to the dogs, and potentially dangerous.  Excitement is contagious with dogs, and having human visitors, especially with their dog, can spread a significant amount of disorder and fear in the whole group.  Excitement and fear are both closely correlated with aggression, fights, and bites.  When we have our meet & greets/evaluations, we carefully plan a slow introduction of dogs in specific orders, and we usually plan on having an extra staff member on-site to help ensure a safe and calm atmosphere. If you would like to come observe your dog with the other dogs, this needs to be planned in advance so that we can ensure a safe and calm environment for dogs and humans alike (we treat this like an evaluation visit, for which there is a charge).

  • For similar reasons as mentioned above, please text or call us at our “daycare phone” (301-263-5887) when you are on your way to us, so that we can prepare for your arrival.  Please remain in your vehicle until the car in front of you has their dog(s) safely inside their vehicle or inside the gates. Unannounced drop-offs and pick-ups can be very disruptive and potentially dangerous.

Communication/General Info

  • Hours of operation are 7:30 am-7:00 pm, 7 days a week.   WE DO NOT ACCEPT BOARDING DROP-OFFS AFTER 3:00PM

    • (if arrival is after 3pm, you will either be turned away if we are busy, or a $20 per 10 minute (no grace period) fee will be applied to your invoice. )

    Pick-up outside of our hours of operation, will incur an additional fee of $10 per half hour.  We would also appreciate limiting texts/phone calls to the hours of operation.  If you have any questions or concerns outside of those hours, please email and we will respond within 24 hours.It is required that you text us within 10-20 minutes prior to arrival for pick-up or drop-off so that we can ensure a smooth and safe transition for your pup as well as the other Dog’s Day guests. 

  • Please give at least 24 hours notice before canceling especially during busy times like holiday weeks and summertime.  We do fill up fast and last minute cancellations prevent us from filling your dog’s spot 😉

  • We are aware that our clients would like updates on their pups and we make every effort to communicate updates when we can, since this is something that is very important to us as doggy parents.  Please be advised that since Dog’s Day is not a conventional kennel, and we are a home environment, we try to limit such texts, emails and calls to specific times in an effort to focus our attention on our canine family as well as our human family.  If you do not receive a response immediately, please know that we will get back to you as soon as possible.

  •  Many owners may not want to know if their “baby” misbehaved, but we want to keep you up-to-date with anything that concerns your dog. We will let you know if they had a time-out or if any scuffles caused a minor incident. If a behavior becomes to difficult to manage for our staff, your dog may be dismissed. We can offer some suggestions for the best possible care solution for your dog.  To read more about why your dog may be dismissed from Dog’s Day, please follow this link.  http://dogsdayfarm.com/why-has-my-dog-been-dismissed-from-daycare-boarding   We’ll also share with you what a great time your dog had and any new things they may have learned!  We do try to do all communicating of issues by text so that we have a record for all staff to reference.

  • Reservations must be made prior to 11am on the day before.  This is a requirement to ensure that we are staffed appropriately.  Having several additions on any given morning would create an unsafe environment for your dogs.  We do understand there are occasional emergencies in which last minute care may be requested and we will do our best to accommodate.  A $10 fee per dog is added to any DAYCARE reservations not made by 11am on the day before the requested service and $25 for BOARDING.

  • ALL RESERVATIONS, CANCELATIONS AND CHANGES AS WELL AS VACCINE UPDATES MUST BE MADE BY YOU IN YOUR GINGR ACCOUNT. We are happy to make reservations and upload vaccines for you. However, since we have booking software for this purpose, we do not have a reservation specialist and will be adding a $7 booking fee for this service. The only exception will be to reservations made after 11am on the day before requested services as Gingr is locked for those reservations.

  • Please try to have your pup visit at least every other month or so.  If your pup has long breaks between visits to Dog’s Day, you may be asked to bring him/her for a daycare prior to boarding stays to ensure a smooth transition (if more than two months has passed since the last visit)

    *Please note we do require at least two successful daycare visits prior to any boarding stays.

  • Dog’s Day is not responsible for lost or destroyed items.  Please only send a leash and food/meds for your dog.  Other items such as blankets, coats, beds and harnesses can often be considered a chew toy for others.  Harnesses are not needed for daycare or boarding.  Your dog is only on leash between your car and the gate in the driveway, so please keep harnesses at home.  If needed, you can request that we bring out a slip lead for your dog in case you are worried that they may slip out of their collar.

Meals and Medications (Meals are offered around 5-6am and around 4:30-5:30pm)

  • All meals must be pre-packaged by meal. 

The best way to do this is to package in ZipLoc baggies (meals can be labeled A.M. or P.M. if they are different, but no need to date them).  If your pup requires that other ingredients are added, such as a full or half cans of wet food, this is fine, but other measurements of canned food as well as other refrigerated/frozen items must be packaged by meal.  

For Example,

If Fido’s A.M Meal consists of:

3/4 cup dry food

1/2 cup ground beef

3/4 cup green beans

1/2 cup pumpkin

2 carrots

 Then, package dry food in baggies by meal and package perishable ingredients (green beans, ground beef, pumpkin, and carrots) in a separate baggie together by meal (this can be frozen and we will defrost prior to mealtime). We will then combine them for mealtime. 

  • All oral medications and supplements must be packaged by day/meal/time. 

The best way to do this is to either

1.) Add the pill into the dry food meal baggie and label “A.M. meal w/ MEDS” (If your pup doesn’t eat take these pills easily, you can wrap the pills in Pill Pockets or make your own by mixing 1 Tbsp peanut butter, 1 Tbsp milk and 2 Tbsp flour (or non-grain substitute)

2.) Package pills together in baggies by day/time (labeled with A.M med or P.M. med with name and date on baggies)

3.) Use a pill box and separate meds by A.M. and P.M.

4.) Make sure all food and medication instructions are up-to-date on your Gingr account

Payment

  • Payment is due upon pick-up or in advance.  We keep your credit card on file and will charge at “check-out”

  • Your pup’s boarding rate is based on a 24-hr overnight period.  Therefore, if the drop-off is in the morning and the pick-up is in the evening (or more than one hour after the drop-off time of day), there will be an additional daycare charge.
